If only summer was like it used to be. Long lazy days at the pool or the beach without a care in the world. But let’s face it, with the exception of a week or two, most of us spend summer days right where we spend winter days—in the office or at home.
Summer can play havoc with our beauty routines. We imagine ourselves frolicking through the warmer months tanned, glowing, and our hair perfectly tousled, yet the reality is often very different. Fear not though, thanks to these handy hacks you can easily (and cheaply) remedy a whole host of summer beauty disasters!
1. Refrigerate Your Beauty Products
Let’s start with a cool though, literally. Did you know refrigerating some of your beauty products is the best way to keep them from an early visit to the trash can? Your refrigerator has a Top Shelf of its own, and some of your beauty products deserve to live up there in cooler climes rather than in the depths of your drawer be it your foundation, mascara, body cream, or nail polish.
2. Use Cling Film To Apply Sun Cream Or Fake Tan To Your Back
There is nothing more annoying than trying (and failing) to apply the cream to your own back. To avoid a burnt or white patch on your back, all you need is a sheet of cling film. Cut a piece around one meter long and apply a blob of your sun cream or fake tan to the center of the film. Then take both ends of the film and use it to rub the lotion over your back as if you were drying off with a towel to evenly spread the lotion.
3. Freeze Aloe Vera Gel To Soothe Sunburn
Simply fill an ice cube tray with Aloe Vera Gel and pop in the freezer. Apply the ice cubes to burnt or sore skin to calm and rehydrate.
4. Use A Potato For An At-Home Pedi
Exfoliate your feet by rubbing the soles with half a potato coated in coarse sea salt. Talk about a cheap Pedi.
5. Brighten Hair With Apple Cider Vinegar
Sun and saltwater can seriously dull the shade of your hair. Spritz your main with ½ cup of apple cider vinegar and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off.
These were some quick beauty hacks that can be easily tried at home. At the same time, we also want to pamper ourselves at salons/spas after long draining summer hours at work, home or school because life seems a bit freer in the summer and we want to try something new and refreshing every time we head to the salon.
When summertime rolls around, it's an opportunity to try out every trend you weren't sure you could pull off for the last three-quarters of the year. Punchy pink lips, coral blushes, and turquoise liners that seem to have no business being worn in the fall come out of hibernation in summer. Meanwhile, super heavy foundation and cakey powders go into hiding.
